Ms. Surakshya Basnet is one of Nepal’s foremost yoga educators, a visionary wellness entrepreneur, and an impassioned advocate for accessible, authentic mindfulness practice. With over five years of dedicated teaching across Nepal, she has quietly and powerfully transformed the way an entire generation of practitioners in Nepal understand their bodies, their breath, and their lives.
Trained in the classical Hatha tradition and certified across multiple discipline from the rigorous Ashtanga
primary series to the still depths of Yoga Nidra, Ms. Basnet brings rare anatomical precision, spiritual groundedness, and extraordinary human warmth to every single class. She founded Surakshya Yoga in
2016 with a single conviction: that yoga, in its truest form, belongs to everyone.
Surakshya was among the first instructors in Nepal to position yoga explicitly as a mental health tool – a counterbalance to urban stress, anxiety, and disconnection from the body. Her approach synthesizes the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali and pranayama science with contemporary understanding of nervous system regulation.
Surakshya’s vision for the next chapter of her work is as clear as it is ambitious: extending the reach of authentic, philosophy-led yoga teaching beyond the walls of her Kathmandu studio by developing online education resources, expanding her retreat programme to international destinations, and deepening her formal teacher training to cultivate the next generation of quality yoga educators in Nepal.
She is committed to the principle that yoga should be financially accessible to those who most need it, and plans to establish a subsidised community teaching programme alongside her commercial operations — ensuring the practice remains genuinely open to all. Above everything, she remains driven by one belief: that every human being deserves access to the tools that allow them to inhabit their body with ease, their mind with clarity, and their life with meaning.
